I celebrated our victory on Okinawa and I thought this was the greatest thrill I would ever have. When we came home, six months after the surrender, most of the celebrations had stopped and rightfully so, as everyone was getting back to their lives. I imagine the ticker tape parades were wonderful, but nothing can compare to the Honor Flight’s “welcome home celebration”. What a wonderful feeling it gave all of us to walk down the path of honor and to be greeted in such a personal and sincere manner. The gratitude and patriotism of the crowd will be something I will never forget. Thank you to all who made this experience possible.
